Each of these maps onto something the brain finds intrinsically motivating, and together they produce the absorbed, persistent engagement that games are famous for.

Exercise, study, and saving money offer distant, abstract rewards, slow and invisible progress, and no immediate feedback. Add social or competitive elements carefully. Shared challenges, leaderboards, or accountability can add motivation, but only if competition energizes rather than discourages you.
